The Weather Channel reported this morning, July 1, 2024, that Hurricane Beryl “made landfall as a category four hurricane on Carriacou island around 11:10 this morning.”  Carriacou Island is part of the Grenadine Islands, north of Grenada.

The Weather Channel added:

Hurricane hunters find that Beryl continues to strengthen and maximum sustained winds have increased to 150 mph.

This will go down in history as the strongest hurricane on record near Grenada.

The Weather Channel continued:

When it comes to wind speed, the latest forecast shows Beryl weakening a little bit by the end of the week as it moves into an area of higher wind shear.

However, the main takeaway remains the same. That Beryl is still expected to remain a dangerous hurricane as it approaches the Yucatan peninsula by Friday.

The latest computer models have barrel potentially moving into the Gulf of Mexico this weekend.

Interests in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands are encouraged to monitor Hurricane Beryl, notwithstanding forecasts that Beryl may slightly weaken due to high wind shear.
