The National Hurricane Center said this morning, Tuesday, July 2, 2024, that Hurricane Beryl is “Expected to bring life-threatening winds and storm surge to Jamaica on Wednesday” as it continues to move west-north-west in the direction of Jamaica.
Regarding today’s position, Hurricane Beryl was located near latitude 14.6 North and longitude 66.9 West. This was about 370 miles (595 km) southeast of Isla Beata, Dominican Republic, and 695 miles (1120 km) east-south-east of Kingston, Jamaica.
Maximum sustained winds are 165 mph (270 km/h).
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the centre, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles (205 km).
Given Beryl’s current trajectory, the following watches and warnings are in effect:

Interests in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands are encouraged to monitor Beryl. The centre of Beryl will move quickly across the southeastern and central Caribbean Sea today and is forecast to pass near Jamaica on Wednesday and the Cayman Islands on Thursday, bringing rainfall and a possible storm surge.
While some forecasts say that Hurricane Beryl may slightly weaken, residents should stay prepared and continue to monitor local Government announcements as forecasts may change at any time.
Residents are reminded that AL96 is tracking Beryl. AL96 is currently a tropical wave located about 1000 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands. It has a 20 per cent chance of formation over the next two days as it moves west at 15 to 20 mph.
