According to an August 28, 2024, press release from Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd., Demesio Frederick, Briony Gallegos, Aaron Webster and Tazmar Dawkins were awarded scholarships by the company to pursue their university studies.

Based on the press release, Frederick will pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Plymouth in the United Kingdom.  He has been employed in CUC’s System Operations Department (now Energy Supply Operations) since 2016 in various roles, eventually becoming a supervisor.

Gallegos will complete her online Master’s degree in Research Design & Analysis through Florida International University in the United States.  She previously completed an online Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Management in 2023. She is also a supervisor at CUC.

Webster will be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering at the Humber College Institute of Technology & Learning in Toronto, Canada. He also spent time working at CUC on a  temporary basis.

Lastly, Dawkins will be pursuing a Master’s degree in Engineering Management at Arkansas State University in the United States. This follows his completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in May 2024.

CUC established its scholarship programme in 1989 and since then has awarded full and partial scholarships to over 65 candidates in the fields of mechanical and electrical engineering, information technology, systems operations, environmental management, sustainable energy, occupational safety and health and financial services. In 2016, the Company further enhanced its scholarship programme by offering assistance for qualified students to pursue their A levels.
