April Angeles Bautista Sentenced To 15 Months In Prison For Stealing $18k From Subway

April Angeles Bautista, a Filipina national, appeared in the Grand Court today, November 21, 2024, to be sentenced for the theft of KYD18,727.75 while she worked at Subway. She received 15 months imprisonment to commence immediately.
Background
Regarding the background, 32-year-old Bautista worked as an assistant manager at Subway from June 2017 where she was responsible for making daily deposits with Cayman National Bank.
An initial online check of the account by Subway’s owner revealed a “lapse of deposits.” A further internal investigation uncovered a total shortfall of over 18k.
Bautista was interviewed by the police, at which time she initially denied the offence. She later entered a guilty plea in Court.
Sentencing
After hearing submissions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and Bautista’s lawyer, Jonathon Hughes, Justice Richards broke down the sentence as follows:
