Some of Cayman’s top youth players are set to face their regional counterparts this month as part of the Caribbean Football Union Boys Under-14 Challenge Series.
Cayman’s Boys Under-14 National Team faces Antigua & Barbuda, Guyana, Barbados and St. Vincent & The Grenadines between 17-20 August in Trinidad and Tobago as part of the Challenge Series Group Stage.
The players began training together in June and coaches have quickly seen them come together on the pitch.
“Our boys are working really hard and giving their all at training,” Cayman Islands Head Coach Claudio Garcia said. “It’s really something amazing and we are so proud of them.”
Cayman opens play at 2 p.m. Saturday, 17 Aug. when it faces St. Vincent & The Grenadines. The team then faces Barbados at 2 p.m. the following day before playing Antigua & Barbuda at 4 p.m. on Monday, 19 Aug. Cayman concludes Group Stage play at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, 20 Aug. when it plays Guyana. All matches will be held at Larry Gomes Stadium.
“This is an important competition for this team as the players prepare for future competitions like next year’s Concacaf Under-15 Championship and the Under-17 qualifiers,” Garcia said. “We look forward to seeing how the players respond and grow.”
Cayman will compete in Group A of Tier 2 in the three-division event.
