Police said today that four people were injured in a single-vehicle collision on Shamrock Road, near Christian Berry Drive around 1:45 am on Saturday, June 22. Their injuries are non-life threatening.
Police explained that they were on patrol in Bodden town when they discovered the accident. In addition to the police, the Cayman Islands Fire Service and EMS teams were on the scene to assist.
As of earlier today, three of the injured persons remained in the hospital, while one was discharged.
Concerning road safety in general, police added that today, June 24, they started their targeted road safety campaign. The campaign will run through July 7.
Speaking more about their increased efforts, Chief Superintendent Brad Ebanks said:
We are taking this opportunity to remind road users to avoid unsafe driving behaviours such as speeding, distracted driving, driving without seatbelts, and, of course, driving under the influence.
Accidents will happen, but taking these steps will help to reduce the frequency and severity of motor vehicle collisions on our roads.
Members of the public can, therefore, expect to see more traffic stops over the next couple of weeks as the police try to keep our roads and drivers safe.
