The Department of Environmental Health said in a press release that the George Town landfill will close at noon today, Wednesday, July 3, 2024. However, the 24-hour landfill drop-off will remain open to the public.
The operating hours at the landfills on the Sister Islands are 8 am to 3 pm today.
All landfills will remain closed on Thursday.
Also, with immediate effect, derelict vehicles, scrap metals, or used oil will not be accepted until further notice. There will be no garbage collections on Thursday. The DEH said this suspension will affect the ordinary schedule, causing a delay of at least one day.
Recyclable materials will not be able to be processed until further notice. However, recyclable materials currently deposited at the depots will be collected to ensure they do not become litter or a hazard.
