Government Asks Contractors To Submit Bids To Build New Dock In East End

According to a publication on the Government’s Cayman Bonfire website, the Ministry of Planning is seeking general contractors to submit quotations for the construction of a new dock at Heritage Pubic Beach, located in East End at Block & Parcel 72C 199 & 90, across from the East End post office. The deadline for bid submissions is September 30, 2024, at 5:00 pm.

Purpose of the new dock

Based on the bid document, “the new dock construction project will enable secure and efficient navigation of marine vessels from the dock to the marine environment.”

The bid document added: “It is designed to ensure that marine vessels  can safely access the launching ramp and depart from the dock, mitigating risk and damage caused by marine conditions.“

Required works

The winning bidder is required to complete the following works:

Site Clearance and Preparation, Provision of 4 Ft. Silt Screens

This includes securing the construction zone, clearing and removing any debris, shrubbery, or items within the immediate path of the staging area and proposed dock, any necessary demolition, installation of 4 ft. silt screens, surveying services, a rock pad access ramp, and any other essential preparation work deemed necessary.  

Demolition and Removal of Existing Dock, Fishing Hut, and Piles 

This involves supplying and installing pre-washed heavy quarry shot rock and light quarry Cayman Rock for the rock pad to provide a base for demolishing the existing dock, dredging works and new dock construction. The winning bidder will also be asked to demolish and dispose of approximately 123 feet of existing timber dock, fishing hut, pilings, and debris, which will be taken to the George Town landfill.

Dredging Works

The bidder must perform dredging works to the sea bottom to a depth of -4’ below MSL using a long-reach excavator to remove approximately (295) CY of material. This will include removing the rock pad and dredged material to a disclosed location within a 10-mile radius.    

Construction of concrete access to the dock

Additionally, the bidder must construct an elevated concrete walkway on pilings for new dock access from the launching ramp.
