Sustainable Cayman Press Release
Sustainable Cayman is excited to announce the launch of Sustainability Ambassador Isabel Watler’s ‘Honouring Coasts Public Outreach Survey’.
The project aims to document intergenerational Caymanian stories, our connections to natural spaces and also, study shifting public attitudes towards conservation.
Dedicated environmental advocate, Isabela Watler, who is a Senior at the University of California Santa Cruz and a marine biology major, and one of Sustainable Cayman’s Youth Sustainability Ambassadors, started the project to raise awareness about the importance of natural spaces to support conservation efforts across the Cayman Islands.
The project is supported by Sustainable Cayman and funded by the Sustainable Ocean Alliance (“SOA”), a US-based non-profit dedicated to activating young people to develop and implement innovative solutions to restore the health of the ocean.
“The Honouring Coasts project, led by Isabela Watler, aligns with our mission to raise awareness about human impacts on our natural spaces which are quickly disappearing, particularly coastlines and public beach accesses. Healthy coastlines provide essential habitat for the conservation of our marine environment for future generations and bringing about awareness through storytelling is an impactful way to help preserve critical coastal habitats,” explains Melanie Carmichael, Sustainable Cayman Executive Member.
The public is encouraged to support this initiative by participating in the two-part survey, which includes watching a series of short video nature stories of community members reflecting on favourite memories in nature spaces.
The survey is available 11 November until 12 December at: https://linktr.ee/honouringcoasts
