Hurricane Ernesto To Impact Bermuda With Strong Winds, Storm Surge

The National Hurricane Center reported this evening, on August 16, 2024, that Hurricane Ernesto has maximum sustained winds of 100 mph (155 km/h) and is moving northeast towards Bermuda. Consequently, a Hurricane warning is now in effect for Bermuda.

The National Hurricane Center forecasts that Hurricane Ernesto will impact Bermuda by Saturday morning, bringing strong winds that will continue into Saturday night.

Rainfall between six to nine inches and a storm surge are expected, which may result in life-threatening flash flooding for Bermuda.

The National Hurricane Center also stated that swells generated by Ernesto will affect portions of the Bahamas, Bermuda, and the east coast of the United States, with these swells likely to reach portions of Atlantic Canada by late Saturday.
