In a verdict delivered in the Grand Court today, March 6, 2026, a jury found Terrence Orlando Reid not guilty of rape following a trial presided over by Justice Peters. Reid, who had been accused of raping his former girlfriend in August 2024, was represented by defence attorney Greg Walcom. The acquittal brings an end to a case that stemmed from a contentious breakup and highlighted issues of consent in intimate relationships.
According to a police interview, Reid and the lady were in a relationship for about eight months after he initially pursued her at her workplace, initially going there as a customer. Reportedly, everything was good at the beginning of the relationship.
However, as the relationship progressed, the lady reportedly discovered that Reid, who identified himself throughout the relationship as “Jamie Lee,” was with someone else.
The relationship subsequently became toxic and became an on-and-off relationship.
According to the police interview, the lady reportedly began dating someone else and officially ended her relationship with Reid on August 19, 2024. She then blocked Reid on WhatsApp and social media.
The police interview then turned to the alleged incident.
Highlighting the background, the report stated that between Friday, August 23, 2024 and Sunday, August 25, 2024, the lady’s new boyfriend spent the weekend with her. He left on Sunday morning to return home and planned to collect the lady later that day.
While waiting for her new boyfriend to arrive and doing laundry, she heard a loud knock on her front door. She assumed it was her boyfriend, but it was Reid. Reportedly, she asked him what he was doing there and tried to push him away, but she was unsuccessful. She tried to ignore him and went out to check her laundry.
While she was checking her laundry, Reid was, reportedly, just standing by her apartment door holding it. She walked back over to the apartment, went inside, took the door from his hand, told him to move and that she was not his woman anymore.
Reportedly, Reid subsequently came inside the house, closed the door and hugged her from behind. Allegedly, she told him to stop because he was hurting her, tried to push him off again and asked him to leave. He removed his shoes, began hugging her and kissing her. The two had sex, which the lady says was not consensual.
After Reid left the lady’s home, her boyfriend arrived. The police interview noted that “She did not know what to say to him, so she just made up a lie, out of fear he would not believe her, nor understand what she had just gone through.”
On the Monday following the incident, the lady reportedly spoke to a co-worker, after which she realised the encounter was considered to be rape. Based on the police interview, the lady expressed that she did not know or consider it to be rape before speaking to her co-worker because they had been together previously. Therefore, she thought it was not considered rape if it was with an ex-partner.
On Monday, September 2, 2024, the police arrested and cautioned Reid about the rape allegation. Reid was processed and bailed to be interviewed on September 2, 2025. He denied all allegations against him.
According to Reid, he went to his former girlfriend’s house uninvited on August 25, 2024. Reportedly, it was his normal routine to visit her after work without an invitation, to have sex.
Reid confirmed in the police interview that he had unprotected sexual intercourse with the lady without her verbal consent; however, in his view, it was consensual because she did not use words to say she wanted to have sex. They would normally hug, begin to kiss, and it led to sex, and he states this is what happened on August 25, 2024.
Reid added that the lady did not end the relationship with him on August 19, 2024. Instead, she only prompted him to leave his other girlfriend to be with her. According to Reid, she told him he would regret it.
Arguing on Reid’s behalf in the Grand Court, defence attorney Greg Walcom indicated that the encounter was consensual and that the lady’s account was inconsistent. Walcolm added that the consensual sexual encounter with Reid occurred the same evening the woman had sex with her new boyfriend.
After deliberations, the jury returned a not guilty verdict, clearing Reid of the rape charge. Justice Peters discharged Reid following the announcement and said he was free to go.
