Today, December 3, 2024, a jury found police sergeant Keren Watson “not guilty” of misconduct in a public office. The jury reached the verdict after three hours of deliberations.
The case centered on Watson’s access of the police records management system to allegedly obtain damaging information on Tamika Young, a woman who was allegedly involved with the same man was Watson.
While the prosecution argued that Watson’s access was for a non-policing purpose and she therefore broke the rules, the jury did not agree, as evidenced by their verdict today.
After the jury delivered the verdict, Justice Richards stated that Watson was discharged of the indictment was free to go.
It is understood that Watson’s lawyer, Amelia Fosuhene, may now make an application for costs in the case.
