Mark Anthony Seymour appeared in the Summary Court today, January 21, 2025, to face allegations of common assault, assault causing actual bodily harm, causing fear or provocation of violence, damage to property, theft, failing to provide a specimen of urine, causing harassment, alarm or distress, driving without being qualified, driving without insurance and using an ICT Network to abuse, annoy or harass. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Background

To understand the background of the incidents, it is necessary to look at each charge separately.

Regarding the allegation of intentional harassment, alarm or distress, it was alleged in the Summary Court that on October 8, 2024, in North Side, with intent to cause a woman harassment, alarm or distress, he allegedly used use threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards her, thereby causing her harassment, alarm or distress.

Concerning common assault, it is alleged that he assaulted the woman on the same day.

For the criminal trespass, it was alleged that on October 9, 2024, Seymour went to the private residence of the woman located in George Town without having any lawful business there.

Additionally, Seymour was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, where it was alleged that, on October 15, 2024, he assaulted the woman on Eastern Avenue, causing her bodily harm.

Further, Seymour was charged with damage to property.  Allegedly, on October 15, 2024, in George Town, he damaged earrings valued at $800 belonging to a woman, intending to damage those earrings or being reckless as to whether or not they would be damaged.

Concerning the use of an ICT service to abuse, annoy or harass, it was s alleged that on October 18, 2024, Seymour used the ICT service to threaten or harass the woman by telephoning her and uttering the following words: ”I swear to God, I’m going to grab your blood clot the next time I see you.”

Lastly, it was alleged that on October 19, 2024, he committed criminal trespass by going to the woman’s private residence without having any lawful business there.

Regarding the allegation of driving without being qualified, it was alleged that, on April 17, 2024, he unlawfully drove a Honda Fit along Shedden Road without being qualified to drive the vehicle.

In addition, he was charged with driving without insurance whereby, on the same date, he drive the Honda Fit without a policy of insurance.

Facing an additional charge of causing harassment, alarm or distress, it was alleged that on May 18 and May 22 on Eastern Avenue, Seymour used threatening and abusive words and behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress.

Regarding a further charge of common assault, it was alleged that on July 10, 2024, Seymour assaulted a woman in George Town by grabbing her by the face and choking her.

Finally, it was alleged that, on the same day, Seymour threatening words towards the woman with intent to cause her to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used against her.

Next steps

The next step is for Seymour to return to court on February 6, 2025, for a case management hearing.
