OfReg Confirms That Submarine Cable Systems Were Not The Cause Of On-Island Internet Connectivity Issues On July 4

The utility regulator OfReg issued a press release today, July 5, 2024, stating that following reports of an outage on one of OfReg’s two international submarine cables yesterday, July 4, OfReg can confirm that after inquiring into the matter with several of its licensees as well as the submarine cable operators, there was no such outage.
While there was a loss or degradation of internet service for several customers, it appears to be related to on-island network issues and not related to outages on any of the submarine cable systems.
OfReg will continue its inquiries to identify the root cause of the problem and ensure that such issues do not reoccur.
