The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said that around 12:05 am today, Saturday, December 7, police and other emergency services responded to a report of an MVA on Esterley Tibbetts Highway, in the vicinity of Pinehurst Road.
It was reported that a cyclist was travelling north along Esterley Tibbetts Highway towards West Bay, when he was struck by a Honda HRV travelling in the same direction.
On arriving at the scene, officers observed the cyclist unresponsive and CPR was commenced. The victim was then transported by ambulance to George Town Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by the attending doctor.
The driver of the Honda HRV, a 24-year-old woman of West Bay, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, and transported to the detention center where she remains in custody.
The deceased is a 22-year-old male Nepalese national who resides in West Bay.
The police express their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
The matter is currently under investigation by the Traffic & Roads Policing Management Unit. Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have any other information to contact 649-6254.
