Manish Tamang, a national of Nepal, appeared in the Summary Court yesterday, February 11, 2025, to face charges of threats to kill and causing fear or provocation of violence. All charges were dropped.
Explaining the reasoning for dismissing the charges, crown counsel from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said that the person complaining about the incident is no longer in the Cayman Islands. In addition, there was no way of contacting the complainant and all other efforts were exhausted.
Because this incident was a one-witness case, the DPP crown counsel said that the DPP could not proceed. Therefore, the threats to kill and causing fear or provocation of violence charges were withdrawn.
After hearing from the DPP crown counsel, the Chief Magistrate noted that since the complainant left the jurisdiction, the matter is dismissed.
