Two Weather Disturbances Developing In Or Near Caribbean Sea. One May Develop As A Tropical Depression

Today, October 16, 2024, the National Hurricane Center reported two areas of low pressure, one approaching the Leeward Islands and the other in the Western Caribbean Sea.

The system near the Leeward Islands is currently located in the Central Tropical Atlantic and is moving westward to west-northwestward.  This may develop as a tropical depression late this week.  The chance of formation through 48 hours is low, at 30 per cent.  The formation chance through 7 days is medium, at 50 per cent.

The disturbance in the Western Caribbean Sea is moving slowly northwestward towards Central America. It is expected to produce heavy rainfall across portions of Central America later this week. The chance of formation through 48 hours is low, at 10 per cent, and through 7 days is low, at 20 per cent.
