Today, May 30, 2025, Adriana Argueta Lobo appeared in the Grand Court to face seven allegations of aiding prisoners to escape. She pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Aiding prisoner to escape

Under Section 115 of the Penal Code, the offence of aiding a prisoner to escape is as follows:

A person who —
(a) aids a prisoner in escaping or attempting to escape from lawful custody; or
(b) conveys anything or causes anything to be conveyed into a prison with
intent to facilitate the escape of a prisoner,
commits an offence and is liable to imprisonment for seven years.

The allegation against Lobo is that between November 2023 and February 2024, she aided seven prisoners to escape lawful custody from the CBC Detention Centre on Fairbanks Road by providing shelter, transportation and other assistance in Grand Cayman and elsewhere, helping them to evade recapture.

After pleading guilty, Lobo was given bail conditions to reside at the address advised to the court, surrender her passport and not to apply for any other travel document unless given permission by the court. Her expected trial date is July 14, 2025.
