Ethel Dell Bodden appeared in the Grand Court today, July 11, 2025, to face an allegation of theft of $29,000. She pleaded not guilty to the charge. She was bailed until her trial date on November 11, 2025.

Background

According to statements made in court, Bodden was charged under section 241 of the Penal Code (2022 Revision).

Allegedly, in November, 2023, Bodden stole KYD 29,000 belonging to Home and Outdoor Limited. According to Crown Counsel from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, it is anticipated that, in connection with the upcoming trial, “much of the Crown’s evidence will be agreed,” however, there is a “question of the defendant’s evidence as to her knowledge and understanding of the circumstances.”The jury trial is expected to start on November 11, 2025 and may last 3 to 5 days.

Theft is an offence under section 241 of the Penal Code. The 2022 Revison stated:

A person who commits a theft commits an offence and —(a) where the value of the thing stolen does not exceed five thousand dollars, is liable on summary conviction to imprisonment for seven years; and(b) where the value of the thing stolen exceeds five thousand dollars, is liable on conviction on indictment to imprisonment for ten years.
