Man Admits Firearm and Ammunition Offences; ‘Going‑Equipped’ Charge Withdrawn, Sentencing Set for November

Ruel Romaine Scille pled guilty, with an explanation, to unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition when he appeared before the Summary Court yesterday, August 3, 2026. He is expected to be sentenced in November.

Outlining the particulars of the charges, Magistrate Murray said that on January 11, 2026, at Selkirk Drive, Grand Cayman, Scille had in his possession a firearm, contrary to sections 15(1) and (5) of the Firearms Act.

Concerning ammunition, Magistrate Murray said that, on the same date, Scille possessed two rounds of .40 ammunition.

He pled guilty to both, with an explanation, his counsel Stacy-Ann Kelly indicated she would argue exceptional circumstances at sentencing.

Regarding the allegation of going equipped to steal, his counsel said there was no evidence to substantiate the charge. Accordingly, that charge was withdrawn. Scille’s overstaying — to which, his counsel indicated, he had already pled guilty — was also before the court, to be taken into account at sentencing.

Magistrate Murray ordered a pre‑sentence report and set a timetable: the report to be available by the end of September, defence submissions by October 23 and the Crown’s response to follow, with sentencing fixed for November 11, 2026.
