Man Denies Obtaining Nearly $66,000 In Property By Deception By Allegedly Operating A Fake Vehicle Import Scheme

Davian Anthony Wright, a man facing nine distinct counts of alleged deception for operating a fraudulent car dealership import scheme, came before Justice Richards in the Grand Court today, September 18, 2026. He pled not guilty to all charges.
Wright pled not guilty to stealing about $66,000 from hopeful car buyers between February 2023 and May 2026. The court heard that it was alleged that Wright collected down payments under the guise of importing Honda Fits, a Toyota CHR, a Ford Ranger, and Honda Vezels, only to disappear with the funds without delivering any vehicles. The breakdown was as follows:
** Counts 1–9: Obtaining Property by Deception, contrary to section 247(1) of the Penal Code, detailing an alleged, systematic vehicle import scam involving promises to import and supply Honda Fits, Toyota CHRs, and Honda Vezels between February 2023 and May 2026.

After Wright pled not guilty to all charges, his lawyer, Candia James-Malcom, raised concerns about fair media reporting. James-Malcom did not elaborate on the concerns in open court.
Meanwhile, Crown Counsel Nicosia Lawson from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions informed Justice Richards that Wright had breached his bail terms by contacting victims directly under the pretence of arranging financial repayments. Wright’s bail was re-approved with a strict warning, a $5,000 surety, and bi-weekly check-ins at the Bodden Town Police Station. His passport must also be surrendered.
