Man Faces Multiple Allegations, Including Leaving Bar & Gas Station Without Paying, Theft and Obtaining Property By Deception

Keith William Barnes Jr had the longest individual docket on the Summary Court list for September 28, 2026, with seven separate case files. Details of the files are provided below.

File 01749/2023:  Obtaining property by deception

The court heard that it was alleged that on May 5 and 9, 2023, Barnes allegedly dishonestly obtained CI$850 belonging to a man, intending to permanently deprive him of it.

File 01609/2024: Failing to surrender to custody

It was alleged that, having been released on bail in connected summary proceedings, Barnes failed to surrender to the court’s custody on September 10, 2024.

File 2025-01273: Making off without payment

It was alleged that on February 23, 2025, at the Country and Western Bar and Restaurant, Barnes made off without paying CI$234 for alcohol run up on a bar tab.

File CR2026-00170:  Obtaining property by deception

It was alleged that on May 23, 2025, Barnes dishonestly obtained CI$500 in cash from a person by falsely representing he would help convert the cash to US dollars.

File 00047/2024: Theft

It was alleged that on or about July 7, 2023, Barnes stole CI$2,000 cash from a woman.

File CR2026-00254: Causing fear or provocation of violence

It was alleged that on September 18, 2025, Barnes used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a man at 51 Seymour Drive in George Town, intending to cause the man to believe immediate unlawful violence would be used against him.

File CR2026-00739: Obtaining property by deception and Illegal provision of immigration services

It was alleged that on or before August 29, 2025, Barnes dishonestly obtained CI$200 from a complainant by deception, and separately provided immigration services for a fee without being qualified to do so.

File CR2026-00359: Making off

It was alleged that on 24 October 24, 2025, Barnes made off from Jose’s Rubis gas station on Crewe Road without paying CI$101.14 for fuel, despite payment being required on the spot.

Next steps

Magistrate McFarlane cautioned Barnes that changing his not guilty pleas to guilty at a later stage could mean he no longer receives full credit for them.

Magistrate McFarlane scheduled a case management hearing for October 29, 2026, remarking it would likely take “a good half hour just by itself” given the number of matters — seven in total — and would need to address whether any of the charges should be joined for trial.
