On June 27, 2025, a man appeared in the Grand Court to face allegations of sexual communication with a 14-year-old. He pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is expected to undergo trial by judge alone in October 2025.
Background
Count 1 of the allegations is that, between July and September 2024, the man engaged in contact with a 14-year-old child to commit an act of a sexual nature.
Count 2 of the allegations is that between the same dates, he knowingly engaged in the communication of sexual nature with a 14-year-old child for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification.
The man’s bail was extended by Justice Richards to his proposed trial date in October 2025. His bail conditions are as follows:
*Residence at the address notified to the court
*Stop notice in place to prevent him boarding any plane
*Stay away from any sea port and the airport, except as required for his job near the airport
*Curfew from 10:30 pm to 6:00 am
*Not to contact (directly or indirectly) any child under the age of 16 without being supervised
*Banned from using social media.
Reporting restrictions
Due to concerns for the child, the Chief Magistrate ordered in the man’s initial appearance in the Summary Court that no publication shall be made that could directly or indirectly identify the child. Further, no publication shall be made of the name of the man as it may lead to the identity of the child.
