Man’s Case Committed To Grand Court Over Alleged Confinement Of A Woman In His Car

A man appeared in the Summary Court today, September 2, 2026, for a preliminary inquiry regarding allegations of insulting the modesty of a woman and wrongful confinement.  The Chief Magistrate committed both matters to be heard in the Grand Court later this month.

The court heard that the man allegedly wrongfully confined a woman inside his motor vehicle in Prospect. Regarding this, section 222 of the Penal Code states:  “A person who wrongfully confines any person commits an offence and is liable to imprisonment for five years.”

Concerning the second charge of insulting the modesty of a woman, the court heard that this allegedly occurred on the same date and location as the alleged confinement. For this, section 133 of the Penal Code states: “A person who, with intent to insult the modesty of any woman, utters any word, makes any sound or gesture or exhibits any object intending that such word or sound shall be heard, or that such gesture or object shall be seen by such woman, or intrudes upon the privacy of such woman, commits an offence and is liable to imprisonment for three years.”

The Chief Magistrate found in both instances that there was sufficient evidence to commit the matter to the Grand Court. While he awaits his next court appearance on September 18, his bail conditions include no direct or indirect contact with the alleged complainant and residence at the address provided to the court.
