By Alric Lindsay

According to a claim stamped by the Summary Court on October 21, 2024, Thomas George Ebanks sued Detective Constable Brian Corbin and the Commissioner of Police for false imprisonment and malicious prosecution.  Mr Ebanks is seeking general damages, including exemplary damages.

Based on the claim, Detective Constable Corbin wrongfully and without reasonable cause arrested Mr Ebanks and took him into custody on November 9, 2023, at the Fairbanks Detention Centre in George Town.  Reportedly, Mr Ebanks was detained for two to three hours.

The Commissioner of Police was added to the lawsuit because Detective Constable Corbin was reportedly acting under the direction and/or control of the Commissioner of Police.

Mr Ebanks seeks:

1. Special Damages in the amount of CI$8,950.00

2. General Damages, including exemplary damages for the false imprisonment of Mr Ebanks and his malicious prosecution.
