A man and a woman appeared in the Summary Court on August 25, 2026, face a joint allegation of Ganja possession with the intent to supply. In addition, the man faced allegations of failing to provide a specimen of urine and misleading a police officer.

Outlining the charge against the woman, the Chief Magistrate noted that she had already entered a plea for one charge, but there was an outstanding plea for Ganja possession with intent to supply.

Reading out the possession charge, the Chief Magistrate said it was alleged that, contrary to section 3(1)(m) of the Misuse of Drugs Act, the woman, together with the man, had in her possession 8.33 kilos — 18 pounds and 6 ounces — of Ganja, on August 21, 2025, with intent that it be supplied to another person.  The woman pled not guilty.  The same charge was put to the man.

The man faced a separate charge of failing to provide a specimen of urine for laboratory testing, contrary to section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, having been requested to do so at the Cayman Islands Detention Centre after arrest on the same date.

After hearing the pleas, defence counsel requested a variation of the woman’s bail conditions as she was expected to attend a job interview at the airport on August 26, 2026, which was a location her bail conditions restricted her from going to. Crown Counsel from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions did not object. The Chief Magistrate amended the condition to add the words “save for employment purposes, and any meetings associated”.

The matter returns on September 10, 2026, when the court will hear DPP Crown counsel’s position on pleas already entered.
