Woman Accused of Renting Out a West Bay Apartment She Had No Right To

A woman has appeared in court accused of taking more than $1,700 from persons by falsely claiming she was entitled to rent out a West Bay apartment.

Dekote Daishenel Ebanks appeared before Magistrate Murray in the Summary Court today, August 5, 2026, facing two counts of obtaining property by deception, contrary to section 247 of the Penal Code.

The charges allege that on August 10 last year she dishonestly obtained $1,000 in cash and, in a second transaction, $725 in cash from a complainant by falsely representing that she had lawful authority to rent an apartment on Adonis Drive, West Bay. Ebanks pled not guilty to the charges.

The matter was adjourned to September for case management, and her bail was extended.
