Lidia Victoria Solomon appeared before Magistrate McFarlane on August 18, 2025, to be sentenced for possession of ganja and smuggling contraband into Northward Prison.  Solomon’s matter was adjourned pending the resolution of certain matters.

Background

According to Crown Counsel from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, in March 2024, Solomon attended the prison with two children to visit an inmate.

While completing normal procedures, a prison officer asked Solomon whether she had anything to declare.  Upon searching Solomon’s upper torso, the officer came across something hard.

Reportedly, when the prison officer pointed to Solomon’s bra and asked what it was, Solomon said, “It’s my breast,” while she held onto her bra.

When the prison officer noted that there was duct tape in the right cup of Solomon’s bra, Solomon reportedly said, “I don’t have anything.”

Subsequently, the two children accompanying Solomon were searched, and nothing illegal was found.

Reportedly, at some stage, Solomon said she no longer wanted to complete the visit.

However, the prison officer explained that this was not possible as she had already entered the prison gate area.  In the circumstances, the prison officer said that Solomon would be detained until the police arrived.

Upon the arrival of the police, Solomon reportedly decided to hand over 1.3 ounces of ganja, which was concealed in her right bra.

During the interview, Solomon reportedly admitted to smuggling.  However, she explained that an unknown male gave her a package to give to a prisoner.

While details were not provided in court, it was suggested that the social inquiry report used to aid the magistrate in Solomon’s sentencing indicated the presence of an element of “duress” regarding the incident.  In the circumstances, the matter was adjourned until the duress element could be considered further.
