A complex maze of criminal prosecutions spanning dozens of distinct counts of drugs, traffic violations, alleged assault and theft reached a partial resolution in the Summary Court today, October 27, 2026.
Thorston Alvey Smith appeared before Magistrate McFarlane via his defence attorney, Lauren Miranda, to answer a sprawling cluster of dockets. Smith entered a series of formal Guilty pleas to a litany of historical drug and traffic infractions. Standing before the court, he admitted to the illegal consumption of Ganja between December 4, 2025, and January 1, 2026, and the possession of 1.61 grams of Ganja on New Year’s Day, 2026. He also entered a guilty plea to the possession of 3.93 grams of cocaine stemming from that same holiday arrest.
Turning to his sweeping traffic record, Smith confessed to operating a silver Honda Accord along West Bay Road on January 1, 2026, while the vehicle was without a certificate of roadworthiness and bearing an expired registration dating back to October 2025. Smith noted for the record that he holds a valid certificate of insurance and pleaded not guilty to driving without insurance. He promised to present the insurance certificate by his next court date.
He entered further not guilty pleas to charges arising from an altercation on February 28, 2026, at The Strand commercial complex. In that matter, prosecutors allege Smith launched an unlawful assault on a woman before stealing a solid gold chain valued at $2,000.
After hearing from lawyers, Magistrate McFarlane set the matters to be heard again on November 26, 2026.
