Jury Dismissed In Alleged Child Sex Offence Trial

A jury was discharged in the Grand Court this afternoon, August 25, 2026, in a trial concerning allegations of indecent assault and inviting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Justice Peters discharged the jury. No reasons were given in open court.

The discharge of a jury is not a verdict. The defendant has not been convicted of anything and remains entitled to the presumption of innocence. Nor is it an acquittal: the charges are not disposed of by a discharge.

Because the case remains live and a fresh jury may in due course have to try it, nothing further about the evidence, the parties or the circumstances of the discharge can be reported at this stage. The complainant is a child and cannot be identified in any event.
