On August 22, 2024, Lovell Marriott filed a lawsuit in Summary Court against the Attorney General and the Commissioner of Police, seeking $20,000 in damages. She claims that her property was damaged and valuable items were lost due to negligence on the part of the police department.

The claim is about Marriott’s allegations that her neighbour displayed “harrassment, and threatening violence” towards her, including attempting to set her apartment on fire. Marriott reportedly made over 20 reports to the George Town police station and the Commissioner of Police, but claims that they did nothing to protect her.

The situation reportedly escalated in October 2023 when Marriott stated that she was hit in the chest and head with a piece of wood by her neighbour’s wife, resulting in Marriott’s hospitalization.

Following this incident, Marriott’s neighbour allegedly threatened to cut off her head with an electric saw.

As a result of these events, Marriott is seeking a protection order from the Court against her neighbour and his wife. Additionally, she is requesting an injunction to prevent her neighbour from using a generator in front of his apartment.

Based on the claim, the reason for the injunction request is that “The noise from the generator disrupted her peace and tarnished her home with the smell of the fumes.”

Marriott alleges that the police were negligent in relation to the foregoing and in respect of her life being threatened by her neighbour.  Regarding this, she alleges that the “police department is fully responsible for damage to property, her belongings, and the inconvenience of not having access to her vehicle,” which she says has an estimated value of $100,000.
