Andrew Romeo Beckford appeared in the Summary Court today, September 15, 2026, to face charges of possession of Ganja with intent to supply and Ganja consumption. He entered a mixed plea and was bailed to return to court in October 2026,
The court heard that on December 5, 2025, Beckford allegedly possessed 4 pounds and 12.9 ounces of Ganja with intent to supply. He pled not guilty and completely denied the charge.
Concerning the second charge, it was alleged that, on a date unknown, but between November 7, 2025, and December 5, 2025, Beckford consumed Ganja without lawful excuse. He pled guilty with the explanation that he has a medical card, although it was not presented in court.
The Chief Magistrate then asked Beckford to confirm his immigration status. He told the court that he was “rolled over” from December 10, 2025, and he is currently “on time” in the Cayman Islands. This caused the Chief Magistrate to express concern about the delay in the DPP bringing Beckford’s case to court. As a result, the Chief Magistrate said his matter must be set down for a priority trial in October 2026.
When asked to explain the delay, which caused the matter to only come to court for the first time in July 2026, Crown Counsel from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said that two of Beckford’s cell phones were seized and had undergone forensic downloads. “That taken some time,” DPP Crown Counsel emphasised.
While Beckford awaits his trial, he was released on bail with the following conditions:
** Required to report to Bodden Town Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between 8 am and 6 pm.
** Must submit passport to the court.
** Must live and sleep at the address provided to the court.
** He is subject to a stop notice at the airport.
