Parking Lot Row Ends In Court As Man Says He Broke Other Driver’s Mirror Out Of Frustration That Driver Took His Space

Christian Alexander Hooton appeared in the Summary Court today, September 15, 2026, to face a charge of damage to property in relation to a dispute over a parking space.  Hooton was fined and given a conditional discharge for three months.

According to Crown Counsel from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the incident occurred on March 8, 2026, in a parking lot at Sunrise Boulevard.  Reportedly, Hooton was reversing into a parking space when another person decided to take the space. The court heard that Hooton later damaged the side mirror of the other vehicle, which was caught on CCTV.

After the CCTV was viewed, Hooton was arrested and admitted to striking the mirror in frustration after a dispute over a parking space, though he claimed no intent to cause damage

DPP Crown counsel presented two quotes for the cost of the damage, being CI$665.75, and CI$485, noting the DPP was obliged to go with the lower quote.

Arguing on Hooton’s behalf, defence attorney Lauren Miranda noted that Hooton was remorseful and immediately reached out to the complainant, offering to pay for the damage.  In addition, Hooton was very apologetic for his conduct. In the circumstances, the defence attorney asked the court not to record a conviction as he had no intention to cause the damage and any conviction could impact his application for citizenship.

After hearing from the prosecution and the defence, the Chief Magistrate accepted that Hooton was remorseful, and noted that he pled guilty at the earliest opportunity. She added that there as low harm and low culpability.  She concluded by giving Hooton a  conditional discharge for three months with the following conditions:

• Pay $485 in compensation to the complainant by September 30, 2026.

• Pay $200 in costs to the Crown.

• No conviction will be recorded if conditions are met.
