The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said that just after 8:30 am on Tuesday, December 31, police responded to a burglary report at a commercial property on Main Street in George Town.
Officers attended the location and ascertained that a store was broken into and that a large quantity of jewellery was stolen from the location. Investigation into this incident showed that entry was gained by two perpetrators just after 1:30 am on Tuesday, December 31. Display cases were broken, and the contents of the displays were stolen. The perpetrators left the location on foot in an unknown direction. The police are investigating the incident and detectives are seeking the public’s assistance with information about the incident and the whereabouts of the stolen items of jewellery.
On Monday, January 6, a man, age 40 of West Bay, was arrested in relation to the incident, however the stolen items were not recovered. The man has been granted bail as investigations continue.
The public is reminded that it is an offence to handle stolen goods: A person handles stolen goods if knowing or believing them to be stolen dishonestly receives the goods, or dishonestly undertakes or assists in their retention, removal, disposal or realisation by or for the benefit of another person.
A person who handles stolen goods is liable to imprisonment for fourteen years. (Penal Code 2024 Revision, Pg. 115, section 260)
