On October 14, 2025, a woman described as Ms Watts appeared via video link in the Summary Court to face charges of assault and biting a police officer. Watts pleaded guilty to all except one of the charges. She is expected to return to court on October 28, 2025.
Background
Regarding count one on court file 835/2025, Magistrate Gunn said Watts was charged with assaulting a police officer.
Reportedly, on June 9, 2025, on Whitmore Seymour Drive in Grand Cayman, PC Damian Dewar, a police officer acting in the execution of his duty, was assaulted and bitten on the forearm by Watts when the officer attempted to subdue her.
On count two, Magistrate Gunn said Watts was charged with assaulting PC Kavan Porter on the same date and same place by hitting the officer on the head twice, biting him on the hand and spitting in his face when he attempted to subdue her.
Further, Watts was charged with resisting arrest in connection with the above.
On file 836 of 2025, Magistrate Gunn said Watts was charged with one count of common assault.
Reportedly, on December 8, 2024, Watts unlawfully assaulted a prison officer. Regarding this, Watts said she was innocent.
Concerning file 837/2025, Magistrate Gunn said that while Watts was released on bail and awaiting criminal proceedings, she failed to attend the Summary Court on May 13, 2025. She was subsequently charged with failing without reasonable cause to surrender to the custody of the Summary Court.
Magistrate Gunn also noted an additional court file related to an old matter. However, Watts’ lawyer, Michael Jordon, explained that he had no instructions and did not appear to be the lawyer who initially handled the old file. Accordingly, Magistrate Gunn ordered that disclosure be served again within seven days to give defence counsel an opportunity to review and obtain instructions.
In the meantime, Watts’ bail was revoked, and she was remanded in custody to be produced on October 28, 2025.
