A man facing four counts of defilement of a girl under the age of 16 will be dealt with in the Grand Court, the Summary Court ruled today, August 20, 2026.

The Chief Magistrate noted at the outset that reporting restrictions apply in the matter, both because it involves a young person and because of the nature of the offences. Specifically, nothing can be published that may directly or indirectly identify the young person.

The Chief Magistrate explained that these are Category A matters, which can only be tried in the Grand Court, and that they are accordingly automatically transmitted there. They will be mentioned in the Grand Court on September 4, 2026.   The man will be remanded in custody until that date.
