A man appeared before the Grand Court on Thursday, pleading guilty to a Watlers Road theft while denying a more severe charge of burglary.

Jino Wright appeared in custody before the Hon. Justice Richards for formal arraignment under indictment 33/26. Wright faces a criminal count originating from an incident that took place nearly a year ago on October 14, 2025.

According to court details, the charges stem from an incident on Watlers  Road, during which a cellular phone, cigarettes, and $3 in cash were stolen.

When the counts were put to him, Wright entered a plea of not guilty to burglary, but entered a guilty plea to the charge of theft.

Wright’s defence attorney, Katie Williams, immediately raised an issue regarding her client’s ongoing detention. Addressing the bench, Williams emphasized that Wright has already spent at least three months in custody on remand.

Williams argued that the period Wright has already spent behind bars is equivalent to, if not exceeding, the standard sentence typically handed down for this type of theft.

Justice Richards remanded Wright in custody until October 22, 2026, when the court will discuss the matter further.
