Woman Denies Laundering Proceeds of Fraud Against Lobster Pot Restaurant

Norma Lina Scott-Padilla, who originally appeared in the Summary Court and whose case was committed to the Grand court, appeared before Justice Richards today, August 7, 2026.  She denied laundering money, which is said to be the proceeds of a fraud committed against Lobster Port, a well-known George Town restaurant.

As previously reported, the first charge is that, between August 1, 2023, and October 10, 2023, Scott-Padilla allegedly acquired, used and possessed criminal property, namely, the sum of KYD 33,152.76, representing the proceeds of fraud, perpetrated against Posh Nosh Ltd trading as The Lobster Pot, knowing or suspecting that the said property constituted or represented a person’s benefit from criminal conduct.

The second charge is that, between the same dates, Scott-Padilla allegedly transferred criminal property, namely, the sum of KYD 18,808.21, knowing or suspecting that the said property constituted or represented a person’s benefit from criminal conduct.

Scott-Padilla pled not guilty to both counts, and the matter will proceed to trial by jury.

The court heard that the prosecution case was likely to take a few days, and that it was expected to be an “explanation case” turning on what Scott-Padilla  knew, rather than a dispute over the underlying facts.

A trial date was discussed for October 12 and a case-management hearing before that in September. She was represented by attorney Keith Myers and remains on bail with conditions to surrender her passport, sign a bond and to reside at the address given to the court.
