Jose Roman Reyes is set to be deported from the Cayman Islands after being sentenced to immediate imprisonment for criminal trespass.
Crown Counsel from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, summarised the allegation, noting that, in January 2026, Reyes was observed by an off-duty police officer in a private parking lot on Northwest Point Road in West Bay. Reyes was seen opening the front passenger door of a vehicle and rummaging through the vehicle without permission.
DPP Crown Counsel confirmed that Reyes made full admissions during his police interview, confirming he searched the vehicle but took nothing. However, the offence was aggravated by the fact that he was already on court bail at the time, having previously pleaded guilty to two burglary charges.
The Chief Magistrate expressed concern over the delay in bringing the trespass charge to court, noting it prevented the application of the totality principle during Reyes’ earlier sentencing. Describing the deliberate breach of private property and bail conditions as serious, the Chief Magistrate imposed a sentence of imprisonment to run consecutively with any prior term.
Following sentencing, Reyes was ordered to be handed over immediately to the immigration authorities to be removed from the Cayman Islands on the first available flight.
